County Executive Announces Expansion Of The Frederick County Rental Assistance Program

All renters who are behind in rent are encouraged to apply

Frederick, MD (KB) At a public information briefing on Tuesday, Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner announced an update in the COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program.

She said this program should help renters who have endured economic hardship in the past year.

“In terms of rent payments, they can be covered for up to 12 months, which is longer than we have experienced in the past,” Gardner explained. “So that can go all the way back to the March 13th, 2020 date.”

As well as rental assistance, renters also may be eligible to receive utility and home energy payment assistance. That would include utilities such as electricity, gas, water and sewer, trash removal, and energy costs like fuel oil.

Gardner also said this assistance could help cover internet costs.

“In many cases, we know that internet has become vital. Renters may need internet for their children to attend school or take classes through virtual learning, and adults may need the internet in order to telework, or to attend telemedicine appointments, or to obtain a number of services,” explained Gardner.

The Rental Assistance Program is made possible through a partnership with the Religious Coalition. The Executive Director, Nick Brown, will be running the program.

“In short, if you rent in Frederick County and you are behind in that rent, or know that you will be, we want you to apply for assistance,” said Brown.

Eligible applicants are those who rent in Frederick County who have lost income or experienced financial hardship that is directly related to the pandemic, and those who meet the following income limits:
