Courts will be back to full operations on March 15th, besides jury trials
Rockville, MD (KB) Chief Judge of Maryland’s State Courts Mary Ellen Barbera said the Maryland Judiciary will begin Phase IV of its five phase re-opening process on Monday, March 15th.
“In Phase IV, the courts will be back to full operations, with the exception of jury trials,” she explained.
Chief Judge Barbera said the courts will resume hearing a broader range of matters — including contested hearings of family, criminal, civil, and juvenile matters.
She said the courts will still follow safety precautions.
“We will continue to follow COVID-19 health precautions, including requiring the wearing of masks, maintaining distance, and temperature checks at building entrances,” said the Chief Judge.
Chief Judge Barbera said the final phase of re-opening will begin on April 26th if COVID-19 infection rates remain low.
She thanked Maryland residents for working hard at keeping infection rates low, as this is why the courts are able to move forward with the re-opening process.
