Annapolis, MD (KB) At a press briefing on Wednesday, Governor Larry Hogan announced a targeted plan for the state’s expected $3.9 billion in federal funding through the American Rescue Plan.

“I’m pleased to announce today that we have, once again, reached an historic bipartisan agreement on a fiscally responsible budget accord, which effectively targets relief to Marylanders most in need,” he said.

The Governor said $300 million will go toward investments in broadband technology.

Senate President Bill Ferguson said this will benefit all Marylanders.

Ferguson said the COVID-19 pandemic has affected how Marylanders use technology in their daily lives. He noted the transition to a virtual world has been difficult for some, at no fault of their own.

“We are so excited to be able to announce today a substantial, a historic, a record-breaking investment in order to ensure that we have a resilient broadband infrastructure both on the physical, and on the human knowledge that it takes to make sure that every Marylander can be connected,” explained Ferguson.

House Speaker Adrienne Jones said collaboration among all was needed to push through plans to help Marylanders.

“I want to thank Governor Hogan and his team, as well as the budget chairs for helping to ensure that all of the federal stimulus and state fund balance are put to work in the best possible way to help Marylanders who need it right now,” she stated.

Jones said the money will help a wide range of citizens..

“With a $3.9 billion dollars coming directly to the state of Maryland for us to help small businesses, students, and struggling Marylanders get back on their feet,” she continued.
