Crews will work overnight to improve the road surface

Washington County, MD (KB) The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a road improvement project on the I-68 Westbound at I-70 Interchange ramp in Washington County.

Crews will work to improve the riding surface of the ramp on Monday and Tuesday. During that time, the ramp onto I-68 Westbound at I-70 in Hancock will be closed.

Weather permitting, the overnight work is expected to be complete by 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The I-68 Westbound ramp will be closed off by traffic barriers from 8 p.m. each night of the project until 5 a.m. the next morning.

There will be a 7-mile detour. Directional signs will help navigate drivers through the detour, and there will be a message board warning motorists of the detour and ramp closure.

The detour route will require motorists to remain on I-70 West to Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania, and then turn around and access I-68 West from I-70 East.

The work will be done by MDOT SHA contractor, Concrete General, Inc., which is based in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

MDOT SHA is reminding drivers to stay alert, look for reduced speed limits and pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones to protect road crews.

All major MDOT SHA projects are listed on roads.maryland.gov.
