Frederick, MD (KB) Hood College in Frederick plans to return to full, face-to-face learning in the Fall. That’s according to Vice President for Marketing and Communications Laurie Ward.

“We’ve actually been in-person for the past academic year,” she explained. “We’ve been hybrid, we gave students the option to either be remote, or take classes in-person.”

As students become eligible for the vaccine against COVID-19 in Frederick County, Ward said the college is hopeful about bringing back near-normal operations.

“We’ve had positivity rates lower than the state and the county the entire year,” stated Ward.

She said about 50-60% of students decided to live on campus this past academic year, but some students decided to remain fully remote.

Ward said traditional, face-to-face learning is beneficial to students.

“We know that students do better in the classroom than remote,” she said. “These students have chosen the Hood College experience because they wanted a small, in-person experience.”

As for the Summer 2021 session, classes will still be held primarily online. Some “hands-on” experiences will take place in-person. Students who are enrolled in summer classes can live on campus.

Ward said the college will continue to partner with Frederick Health Hospital and the county Health Department to track the COVID-19 trajectory.

“They’ve been amazingly strong partners for the past 18 months, and we will rely on their guidance,” said Ward.
