AAA Recycling Car Batteries To Plant Trees

The ‘Batteries for Trees’ program lasts through May 2nd

Towson, Md (KM) AAA Mid-Atlantic is giving consumers an opportunity to plant a tree in a national forest as they replace their car’s battery “The auto club will once again fund tree planting for the responsible recycling of old batteries,” says Ragina Ali with AAA Mid-Atlantic. “Whenever a new battery is replaced by either our AAA roadside emergency service team, or at one of our AAA Car Care Insurance Travel Centers.”

There is such a center in Frederick County along Buckeystown Pike.

Ali says this effort to fund tree plantings takes place until May 2nd. “If a consumer or AAA member needs a new battery at any time during this time, we will automatically recycle that battery on their behalf, and support the tree donating initiative through our national forest and the Arbor Day Foundation.”

She says AAA has supported this effort for ten years.  . “Since 2011, AAA has contributed to the planting of nearly 20,000 trees,” Ali says. “In 2019, the initiative resulted in AAA supporting the planting of 6,000 trees and that was an increase of 36% from the 4,400 tree plantings we did in 2018.”

The program was put on hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. :”We expect to plant even more this year as our program has also expanded to include tree plantings and recognition of AAA associates for their green activities and volunteerism efforts throughout the month of April as well.”

The tree planting effort by AAA honors Earth Day which is April 22nd, and Arbor Day on April 30th.

Ali says if anyone needs a battery replacement and is uneasy about leaving their home due to COVID-19, AAA will come to them. “AAA Mobile Battery Service can travel to an AAA member’s location to test their battery, replace those that are spent, and recycle the old battery for them,” she says.
