Investigation Underway Into The Death Of An Assault Suspect Who Was Tased Three Times

Charles Town, WV (KM) An investigation is underway into the death of man who had been tased three times by Jefferson County, West Virginia Sheriff’s Deputies.

Authorities say early Saturday morning at around 1:38, deputies were dispatched to Torrey Court in Charles Town to investigate the assault of an 80-year-old woman. Her husband said a 34-year-old man about 400 pounds with a thick beard and running around naked had attacked her, punching her in the face.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim outside of the home, lying on the ground. The deputies were told the man was in the basement. They entered the basement, giving him verbal commands to come out. He did not comply. The Sheriff’s Office says the man was tased three times  In one instance, he removed the darts and advanced toward deputies. They were able to grab the man by the arm and place him on the ground where he was handcuffed.

The man continued to resist, but loss consciousness.  However, he  maintained a pulse and shallow breathing. Medics were dispatched and began providing care to the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to the state medical examiner in Charleston, WV for an autopsy. The suspect’s name has not been released.

The 80-year-old woman was treated for her injuries.

The Jefferson County, WV Sheriff’s Office says the incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information that could help is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 304-728-3205.
