Frederick, Md (KM) Compliance checks of local merchants who sell alcohol were  conducted during the month of March. The Frederick County Health Department’s Merchant Sales Compliance Initiative says 24 businesses were checked and eight were found to be in violation of the law prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors. The businesses were referred to the Frederick County Liquor Board.

The Health Department says last year, no alcohol compliance checks were conducted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and no tobacco merchant compliance checks have been conducted during the first three months of this year.

In Frederick County, individuals who are underage assist in the alcohol and compliance checks. The Health Department says these persons who are underage have driver’s licenses or state issued identification which they must provide when asked by a merchant. If the merchants asked for that underage individual’s age, he or she must provide it. These underage individuals are always accompanied by a plain clothes police officer.
