Frederick, Md (KM) The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has once again rescheduled the lane shift for Interstate 270 in Frederick County due to the weather.  .  It  will now start on Thursday, May 6th at 8:00 PM, and be completed by Friday, May 7th at 4:00 AM.   The southbound lanes of I-270 on the bridge over Route 85 will be shifted left toward the median.

SHA had originally scheduled the lane shift for Tuesday, May 4th, but that was rescheduled for Wednesday, May 5th also because of the weather.

SHA spokeswoman Shantee Felix says personnel will install concrete barriers on Maryland 85 median and the northbound shoulder. “This traffic shift is going to allow our crews to work underneath the bridge on Maryland 85 which will be widened as part of this project,” she says.

This work is part of the I-270/Rt. 85 interchange project to improve safety and reduce congestion, says SHA. Crews have replaced  the two I-270 bridges and will widen Md. 85 by adding a new travel lane in both directions. “We’re in the construction phase of this project, and we expect to be complete by fall of 2022,” says Felix.

SHA says the project’s total cost is $87.7-million.
