It’s part of the I-270/Rt.. 85 Interchange project.
Frederick, Md (KM) There will be a new traffic pattern on Interstate 270. Beginning at 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 4th, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration says the southbound lanes of I-270 on the bridge over the Route 85 bridge will shift to the left, moving traffic closer to the median. This shift is expected to be completed by 4:00 AM on Wednesday, May 5th.
SHA spokeswoman Shantee Felix says personnel will install concrete barriers on Maryland 85 median and the northbound shoulder. “This traffic shift is going to allow our crews to work underneath the bridge on Maryland 85 which will be widened as part of this project,” she says.
This work is part of the I-270/Md. 85 interchange project to improve safety and reduce congession, says SHA. Crews have repalced the two I-270 bridges and will widen Md. 85 by adding a new travel lane in both directikons. “We’re in teh construction phase of this project, and we expect to be complete by fall of 2022,” says Felix.
SHA says the project’s total cost is $87.7-million.
