National Weather Services Says EF 1 Tornado Touched Down In Frederick County

It damaged an estimated 150 trees, but no injuries.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sterling, Va. (KM) The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Frederick County on Monday.

The twister traveled between Mount Pleasant and Libertytown, uprooting, snapping or damaging an estimated 150 trees while moving northeast for three-quarters of a mile. A Weather Service crew conducting a survey on Wednesday said the destruction covered an area between Old Annapolis Road, Chestnut Grove Road and north of Alton Road. No injuries or structural damage was reported.

The twister was about 200 yards wide and was formed around 8:14 Monday evening.

The National Weather Services has classified this tornado as an EF 1 with peak winds of 90-miles per hour.
