Fatal Pedestrian Accident On I-270 Under Investigation

The incident occurred Monday morning.

 

 

 

Rockville, Md (KM) A Silver Spring man was killed early Monday morning along Interstate 270 in Montgomery County..

State Police say at around 12:40 AM, troopers form the Rockville Barrack responded to northbound I-270 near Rockledge Boulevard for a two-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. Authorities say Lloyd A. Gardiner, 57,  had stopped his vehicle in the travel portion of the highway after a crash. He was standing in front of his car when it was struck by second vehicle. The impact pushed the vehicle forward, striking Gardiner. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene.

Gardiner’s body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

A Maryland State Police accident reconstruction team also responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration provided  assistance with traffic and detours following the crash.
