Annapolis, Md (KM)   Governor Larry Hogan has lifted the mask mandate in Maryland.  He made that announcement Friday in Annapolis.

The Governor said he took this action following recommendations on Thursday from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which said persons who have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus do not need to wear a mask in public.

In his announcements, Hogan said the mask requirement is still in place in public transit, schools and medical settings.  He also urged those who have not been vaccinated to wear a mask, and to get their shots.

The lifting of the mask mandate takes affect on Saturday.

The Governor said there are now no legal requirements for businesses when it comes to masks, and they are free to set their own polices.

In response to a reporter’s question, the Governor said the State of Emergency he put in place last year is still in affect, but the restrictions have been eased.

He thanked  the many Marylanders who have received their COVID shots, and doctors, nurses and other health care professionals who have worked hard, as well as the Maryland National Guard.
