Frederick Police Arrest Man Following Brief Standoff

He’s charged with assault, false imprisonment, other charges.

Frederick, Md (KM) A Walkersville man was taken into custody on Friday following a brief standoff. George O’Connor, 30, is charged with 1st-degree assault, 2nd-degree assault, reckless endangerment and false imprisonment.

Frederick Police say on Friday morning at around 11:30, a woman approached a Sheriff’s Deputy at the County Courthouse.   She had been assaulted and identified O’Connor as the suspect.  Frederick Police detectives were contacted, and the victim told them she was assaulted physically at a hotel in Frederick. She also accused O’Connor of ..choking her and displaying a handgun.

An arrest warrant was obtained for O’Connor.

During the evening hours, the Frederick Police Special Response Team, and the SWAT teams from the Frederick and Washington County Sheriff’s Offices converged on his home on Challedon Drive. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office brought along one of its Armor Rescue Vehicles.

O’Connor had barricaded himself inside, but shortly afterward surrendered to police. The Frederick Police Crisis Negotiation Team was able to get O’Connor to give himself up.

O’Connor was taken to Frederick Health Hospital for a mental evaluation. He was then transported  to the Adult Detention Center where he’s currently being held  without bond.
