Frederick, Md (KM) There’s some additional help for Frederick County residents who are having difficulty feeding themselves and their families during the economic slowdown resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. County Executive Jan Gardner says individuals can go on line to FeedingFrederick.com, and find the location of the food distribution site nearest their home.

“Feeding Frederick is a collaborative partnership with Frederick County Government, the Community Foundation of Frederick County, the Ausherman Family Foundation, and numerous agencies and individuals committed to providing free food resources throughout our county, “says Gardner.

There are about 80 food distribution sites in Frederick County. They provide free food to families who are struggling economically.

Gardner says the problem of food insecurity is very real. “After losing income or falling ill, it may a challenge to put food on the table or to pay rent,” she says. “In fact, by some estimates, as many as one out of every four Marylanders are currently facing food insecurity. And many of these people are children or seniors. And you can see that through the drive-through lines at some of our food distribution sites.”

So it’s important for a website like FeedingFrederick.com to be there to help out. “For someone in need of food, it’s sometimes difficult to know where to go, how to get there and what the hours are. So connecting people to those food resources so they can get their next meal is important,” says Gardner.

She says the website also has information for people who want to help out. “The site also includes information on how you help to end hunger in the Frederick community by volunteering, donating food or offering financial support,” says Gardner.

Flyers handouts are being printed forĀ  distribution around the county, and pictures will be posted on social media.

County Executive Gardner made this announcement during her public information briefing on Thursday.
