Frederick, Md (KM) A public statement is expected on Wednesday from Frederick County Councilman Kai Hagen regarding a recent incident in his life. He did not specifically mention his actions during a traffic stop on June 20th along  Route 806 and Blacks Mill Road.

Hagen announced the impending release of his  statement during Tuesday’s County Council Meeting. His colleague, Councilman Steve McKay, offered this advice. “I just hope that you will look hard at your actions, and be humble about them,” he said. “Even with the best of intentions, we make mistakes. We’re human that way. I hope you really think about that; as a friend, I do.”

McKay told Hagen “I do think you made a mistake. You have an opportunity to make amends in a small way, and I sincerely hope you do that. Okay,”

During the evening of June 20th, Hagen said he happened up a sheriff’s deputy who pulled over a motorist who had a trailer tag on his vehicle. He said the driver who was pulled over was Black, and he wanted to make sure everything was okay.

Councilman Hagen and Sheriff Chuck Jenkins clashed over this incident  on Wednesday of last week on WFMD’s “Mid-Maryland Live.” Hagen said he interfered because he said systemic racism is a problem in law enforcement locally and nationally. Sheriff Jenkins denied that.

The driver was let go with two warnings from the deputy.
