Annapolis, MD (NS) On Wednesday, Governor Larry Hogan announced the launch of the $1 million VaxU Scholarship Promotion to encourage students and their families to get the COVID vaccine.

20 vaccinated Maryland residents between the ages of 12 and 17 will be randomly selected for a $50,000 scholarship for higher education. Drawings will be held every week between July 12 and Labor Day.

In his announcement at the University of Maryland, College Park, Governor Hogan said, “These scholarship funds are being provided through funding from the American Rescue Plan, so federal dollars. All you have to do is go out and get your shot, in order to have a shot, at winning a scholarship to the college of your choice.”

Winners between the ages of 12-14 will receive a 4-year Maryland Prepaid College Trust Account and winners between the ages of 15-17 will receive a Maryland College Investment Plan. The students would have the option to use the money towards both in-state and out-of-state schools.

The winners will be selected using the same random number generator as the $2 Million VaxCash Promotion and winners will be able to remain anonymous.

Governor Hogan said, “Promotions like this are just one more way that we are reinforcing the importance of getting every single Marylander that we can vaccinated against COVID-19, especially our young people. If any of our 12 to 17-year-olds or their parents needed another good reason, then now they can get vaccinated for a chance to win a $50,000 college scholarship.”
