WFMD Wins AP News Awards

Frederick, Md (KM). The WFMD News Team won four first place awards,  and one second place award  in the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association Contest last weekend. .

During a virtual  convention held over ZOOM  by the CAPBA, The News Team took home first place for Outstanding Coverage of a Continuing Story for its work on covering the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. . “Great work. Very strong content with extensive reporting,” the judges said.,

WFMD News also won the Outstanding Website award. The judges said:   “News is easy to find along with other information about the station.”

The afternoon talk show, “Mid-Maryland Live,” won Outstanding Talk Show. “Fast paced and lively discussion,” the judges said. “Call-in listeners were respected and treated fairly, giving them the time needed to make their point. Good Job.”

The station also won Outstanding Year-Round Sports for 2020. The judges commented: “Great sports coverage of your local teams.”

WFMD came in second place for Outstanding News Operation.

The CAPBA says there were more than 281 entries for 2020 from 28 stations. There were 20 judges who looked over all entries, with 132 awards handed out this year.

Membership in the CAPBA consists of radio and TV stations in Maryland, Delaware and Washington DC.
