He was also found with drugs and cash on his person.
Frederick, Md (KM) A suspect has been charged in connection with an armed carjacking Tuesday morning in Frederick. Lafayette Thompson Sheffield, 46, was taken into custody shortly after the incident.
Police say a woman who drives a taxi was approached along the Unit Block of South East Street by a man wearing a white, sleeveless shirt and white shorts, and was asked to take him to a local store. The suspect approached the cabbie, said he had a gun and wanted to carjack the driver. The two struggled and the cabbie was choked as Sheffield tried to gain access to the vehicle. . Bystanders assisted the victim and Sheffield ran away.
Additional officers were called to the scene, and a search got underway using a police canine. A person called police and reported a man hiding in the area of B&O Avenue and Water Street. Officers quickly located Sheffield and took him into custody without incident. The victim positively identified Sheffield as her attacker.
Authorities say they found drugs on Sheffield’s person consistent with white powdered substances such as cocaine, fentanyl and heroin. They had a street value of between $800 and $1600. Sheffield also had $700 in cash with him.
