Dr. McCauslin’s appointment comes as the school is expanding it SNSM program.
Emmitsburg, Md (IKM) Mount Saint Mary’s University has announced the appointment of Dr. Christine Seitz McCauslin as the new dean of the School of Natural Science and Mathematics. She has been serving in the post in an interim capacity since Dr. . Kraig Sheetz was appointed vice president of the Mount earlier this year.
“Christine has shown impressive leadership skills and will continue to build the programming, partnerships and experiences that make our SNSM students extremely competitive for job and graduate school opportunities,” said Dr. Tim Trainor, President of Mount Saint Mary’s University, in a statement.. “She not only brings extensive institutional knowledge to her new role but also a record of working collaboratively and across areas of disciplines to achieve strategic initiatives focused on student success.”
Dr McCauslin’s appointment comes as Mount Saint Mary’s is set to break ground next summer on an expansion of the School of Natural Resources and Mathematics. This is due to a 30% increase in the number of students majoring in the sciences, and the launch of new programs in data science, cybersecurity and neuroscience. The $4.1-million addition to the Coad Science Building will include new classrooms, laboratories, “classatories,” office and collaborative meeting space for the enhancement of the students’ learning environment, according to a statement from the Mount.
“We are fortunate to have experienced tremendous growth in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics over the last several years thanks to the hard work of our students, faculty and staff,” Dr. McCauslin says in a statement. “It is an honor to work with this outstanding group, and I look forward to the road ahead as we build on our trajectory of success and gain recognition as a leading STEM educator whose graduates are highly sought after and prepared to make a positive impact on the world.”
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Dr. McCauslin earned a Bachelor of Science in biology at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Science degree in biomedical science at Hood College, and a doctorate in genetics at George Washington University. Before coming to the Mount in 2004, Dr. McCauslin conducted research at the National Cancer Institute in Frederick.
