Accident On Sharpsburg Pike Kills One, Sends Another To Shock Trauma

The head-on crash closed Rt 65 for several hours.

Hagerstown, Md. (DG) – One man is dead, and two others injured after an accident in Washington County on Wednesday evening.

Maryland State Police report a fatal accident that happened on Sharpsburg Pike at around 7 PM near Taylors Landing Road. Upon arrival they found a 1998 Ford Econoline Van involved in an accident with a 2009 Chevrolet HHR.

Investigators say the van was traveling southbound on Sharpsburg Pike when it cross the centerline and into the path of Chevrolet head-on.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Charles Gross of Sharpsburg, Maryland, was killed in the accident. A passenger in his vehicle was taken to Meritus Medical Center. The driver of the van, Emily Cothran, of Sharpsburg, was flown by Trooper 3 to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

The accident remains under investigation.
