Frederick Police Arrest Suspect In Murder At Local Burger King

Darin Tyler Robey

Suspect is being held without bond.

Frederick, Md (KM) Frederick Police have arrested one person for a murder Sunday evening  at a local fast-food restaurant.   Darin Tyler Robey, 20, of Frederick, is charged with 1-st and 2nd-degree murder, 1st- and 2nd-degree assault  and several firearms offenses.

During a appearance Monday morning on WFMD’s “Morning New Express,” Police Chief Jason Lando said officers  responded to the Burger King on Routzahn’s Way at around 7:15 PM for a shooting. They learned that Robey got into an argument with a woman. Jaion Antonio Penamonn, 20, tried to intervene,  but was shot several times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We have no  cause right now to believe that there is anyone else out there. So as far the public is concerned,  the public safety, there is no further  threat,” Chief Lando says.

He says the Police Department put out some preliminary information on its  social media pages about the murder. After that, some people suggested it was gang related, a drug deal gone bad, or someone from Baltimore coming to Frederick to shoot another person.  The Chief says none of these statements have been substantiated.  . “So we have no information at this time to lead us to believe that there was any kind of gang involvement. And if that information comes out in the future, we’ll make sure to update the public.”

At a bond review hearing on Monday afternoon,  Robey was ordered held without bond, and not to have any contact with the State’s witnesses.

Chief Lando says this homicide remains under investigation, and members of the public who have information on this incident, or may have witnessed it, are asked to contact Frederick Police. They can call Detective Jones at 240-674-7058, or send an e-mail to [email protected]. Citizens can remain anonymous  and call the Tip Line at 301-600-TIPS (8477).
