Man In Motorized Wheelchair Killed In Pedestrian Accident In Point Of Rocks

The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene.

Point Of Rocks, Md. (KM) – Maryland State Police in Frederick are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident in Point of Rocks Thursday afternoon.

Troopers say a Nissan Altima operated by Steven Hartle, 39, of Frederick was traveling westbound in the 3390 block of Point of Rocks Road (Rt. 464) when his vehicle crested a hill. A man identified as Clyde Plymale was in the roadway in a motorized wheelchair. The Nissan struck the Plymale, who was ejected from his wheelchair. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hartle came to an immediate stop.

State Police say witnesses were interviewed and an accident reconstructionist was called to the scene along with members of the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Point of Rocks Road was closed for about two-and-a-half hours while troopers conducted an investigation. A traffic detour was set up.
