Two Men Arrested For Drugs, Gun Offenses Following Vehicle Crash

Deputies captured one man who fled the scene armed with a handgun.

Frederick, Md. (KM) – Two men were arrested following a vehicle crash on Wednesday. David Cody Wilson, 30, of Billings, Montana, and Brandon Lee Bennett, 30, of Frederick,  were taken into custody.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office say at around 11:30 in the morning, deputies responded to the 8500 block of Old Kiln Road in Thurmont for the crash. Wilson was found intoxicated outside of a disabled vehicle. Looking into the car, deputies found multiple rounds of ammunition.

Authorities say Bennett fled the scene armed with a handgun. Deputies with the help of a police canine located Bennett and recovered the firearm.

Bennett faces charges of possession of marijuana, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of controlled dangerous substances (drugs) with a firearm, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, illegal possession of ammunition, having a loaded handgun in a vehicle and having a handgun in a vehicle.

Wilson is charged with resisting and interfering with an arrest, two counts of 2nd-degree assault, obstructing and hindering a police officer, possession of marijuana, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person and having a handgun in a vehicle.

Both men were taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.

“Our deputies quickly responded and resolved an incident which could have gone in the wrong direction,” says Sheriff Chuck Jenkins, in a statement. “Both subjects had out-of-state warrants. Wilson’s was extraditable from Montana, and both have a lengthy criminal history. and are known to resist arrest and carry firearms.”
