Emmitsburg Man Killed In Fatal Crash Involving A Bicycle

Md. State Police say charges are pending.

Emmitsburg, Md. (KM) – Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation of a fatal crash involving a bicycle and a motor vehicle.

At around 2:45 Monday afternoon, troopers responded to the 10,000 block of Taneytown Pike in Emmistburg for a report of a bicyclist struck. Tyler Clark, 26, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania was operating his Dodge van along Taneytown Pike when it struck the rear of a bicycle being ridden by Shawn Blumenfeld, 51, of Emmitsburg. Blumenfeld was pronounced dead at the scene. Clark was not hurt, and he remained at the scene.

State Police say charges are pending following the outcome of their investigation and consultation with the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Witnesses on the scene provided statements to police.

Troopers from the State Police Barrack in Frederick responded to the scene, along with emergency medical services personnel. Area troopers assisted the Maryland State Police Crash Team conducting the investigation. The Department of Transportation State Highway Administration was also at the scene to asset with road closures and detours.
