Frederick School Of Religion Starts In April

It’s in its 38th year.

Frederick, Md. (KM) – Registration is now underway for the Frederick School of Religion. It’s a series of five courses being held Monday and Tuesday each week starting on April 18th, and ending on May 24th.

The school is in its 38th years, and past President Gerry Blessing says it’s been very popular. “There’s a different group of students each year, many returning students, maybe the majority are returning students,” he says. “But it’s been consistently popular, having a class size of between typically ten and up to 40.”

The classes being held this year are: Lao Tzu Meets Jesus: Spiritual Wisdom of the Tao Te Ching and the Teachings of Jesus; Theology–For All?; The Return of the Prodigal Son: The Story and the Backstory; Moving the Racial Justice Agenda Forward: Racism, Dismantling Racism, Becoming Anti-Racist; and What Did Jesus Really Say and Do (According to Mark).

Blessing says the course will be offered Monday afternoons and evenings, and Tuesday afternoons at Brook Hill United Methodist Church at 8946 Indian Springs Road, in Frederick, Maryland. He says the cost is “very modest” $30 for five courses. “And we are able to do that by way of donations from individuals who take the classes and also by church communities making donations,” he says. .

The school tries to represent all religious beliefs  in its courses. “We  try to have somebody represented from the Jewish community and the Islamic community. But it did not work this year to be able to do that. Hopefully, next year we will be back in full swing,” says Blessing.

The Frederick School of Religion was postponed  for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Those who are interested can visit the School’s website at www.frederickschoolofreligion.org for more information and to sign up. Blessing says the courses  are open to both the laity and the clergy from all faiths.
