Frederick, Md. (NS) – A man in Frederick has been charged with sex abuse toward a minor who is mentally disabled.

On April 12, Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Ricardo Cruz-Mendoza, 37, on four counts of sex abuse of a minor and one count of third-degree sex offense.

The victim is mentally disabled and 14 years old.

Cruz-Mendoza has been placed on a detainer by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement through the 287g program and is being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center without bond.

Sheriff Chuck Jenkins said, “This is yet another example of the value of the 287g program to public safety in Frederick County.”

287g enables staff at the ADC to check on the immigration status of those arrested by deputies. If they are here illegally, they can deported.
