Fire In Taneytown Kills Woman

Fire killed the woman and displaced 7 others

Taneytown, Md. (DG) – A fire over the weekend in Carroll County killed a woman and displaced seven others.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said firefighters were dispatched around 11:30 a.m. Saturday to a house in the 2700 block of Roop Road in Taneytown.

Officials say the fire went to two alarms and the flames were brought under control in 90 minutes.

Investigators said the remains of 57-year-old Jan Williams were found in the home. Williams’ remains were taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

There were no working smoke alarms in the house. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at $200,000.
