Four-Vehicle Crash On I-81 In Washington County Leaves One Person Dead Monday Afternoon

The roadway was closed for six hours while Md. State Police conducted an investigation.

Hagerstown, Md (KM) A four-vehicle, chain-reaction crash on Interstate 81 at the six-mile marker in Washington County Monday afternoon left one person dead.

State Police in Hagerstown say Brittney Mae Goodwin of Greensboro, North Carolina was the operator of a Mazda SUV which had stopped along southbound I-81 due to heavy snow squalls. Her vehicle was between a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Kenworth truck tractor. Troopers say a Freigthtliner truck tractor approached and struck the pickup truck, causing it to struck the Mazda SUV, causing the- SUV to strike the Kenworth truck tractor.

Goodwin was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other patients were transported to Meritus Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, State Police say. .

The crash closed that stretch of I-81 for six hours while troopers conducted an investigation.
