The cause is under investigation.
Hagerstown, Md. (KM) – Two pets perished in a town house fire in Hagerstown Sunday evening.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says at around 6:32 PM, fire fighters were dispatched to 10319 Lantern Lane for a three-story, wood frame town house on fire.
The fire went to two alarms. 53 fire fighters spent more than an hour bringing the flames under control. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $400,000 to the structure, and $100,000 to the contents. .
Investigators say the fire originated on a rear deck, and spread of the rear of the structure before reaching the roof, and then spreading into the interior of the second floor, where the home sprinkler system activated. The fire wall between the town house units prevented the flames from spreading to the other town houses, investigators say.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The occupants were not home art the time of the fire.
