Fire Heavily Damages Equipment Barn In Mt. Airy

The Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire was accidental.

Mt. Airy, Md. (KM) – The cause of a building fire in Mount Airy Thursday morning was accidental.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says at 10:48 AM, fire fighters were dispatched to the 4000 block of West Watersville Road, and found a 50-foot by 100-foot enclosed pole barn fully involved in flames. . Water was secured by using a tanker truck and a supply line from a fire hydrant at Route 27 and the access road to a local waste water treatment plant, according to Mount Airy Fire officials.

Personnel made a defensive attack on the fire, and had it under control within a half hour. But it took two hours to fully extinguish the flames. There were no injuries, but fire officials say the building was heavily damaged.

The Fire Marshal’s Office says the damage estimate is $100,000. .

The fire originated in the interior of the building.

Fire fighters from Carroll, Frederick, Howard and Montgomery Counties also responded to help put out the flames.
