He said they followed the science and state guidance.
Frederick, Md. (NS) – Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor said the city followed directions from the state when it came to mandates due to COVID-19.
“We never did shut down the city. So, what happened was we followed Governor Hogan and Governor Hogan’s mandates with regards to business, and we put our own policies in place for our operations. I think we know now that we could be more selective in our approach to how we do that,” said O’Connor.
He joined WFMD’s Morning News Express on Tuesday and said before the COVID-19 vaccine became available, many leaders did not know how to best react to the pandemic.
“As someone who had to make decisions in those moments, live, I’m not going to criticize people who also had to make decisions in those moments live because I don’t know anyone, I don’t know anyone, we can read the national media and assume all sorts of things, I don’t know a single person who made a decision during COVID-19 for political reasons,” O’Connor said.
Frederick City lifted its state of emergency due to the virus on April 15.
To date, there have been almost 45,999 COVID-19 cases in Frederick County and 522 people have died from COVID.
