Bicycle Collection Being Held In Frederick To Support People In 3rd World Countries

The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek is working alongside Bikes for the World.

Frederick, Md. (NS) – You can make a difference in the life of a person in a 3rd world country by donating a bicycle to the Bikes for the World drive in Frederick.

Norm Birzer with the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek, said the Rotary Club is collecting these bikes to send all over the globe.

“It’s important for people to get involved with this bicycle collection because many people have bikes that they’re not using and they’d like to see them used for some good purpose,” said Birzer.

He added that receiving a bike can be life changing.

“We realize that a bicycle can get someone some place like form poverty to self-sufficiency. In developing regions of the world, children walk long miles to school. Farmers take produce from the villages into the cities and a bicycle can greatly enhance and transform their lives,” Birzer said.

Bikes for the World accepts bicycles in all sizes and conditions.

Richard Foot with the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek Bikes for the World Committee, said the upcoming bicycle collection will be held on May 7 at Triangle Motors at 1790 North Market Street from 9 am to 1 pm.

“For more information you can visit the Bikes for the World website at bikesfortheworld.org to learn more about what a simple bicycle can mean to a person in need of affordable transport,” said Foot.

So far, Bikes for the World has impacted almost 700,000 lives by donating over 170,000 bicycles in 29 countries.
