MDOT SHA To Hold Hiring Event On Tuesday At Frederick Office

Applicants are asked to bring some photo identification.

Frederick, Md. (KM) – If you’re looking for a job, you may  be interested in attending a one-day hiring event at the Maryland State Highway Administration at 5111 Buckeystown Pike in Frederick on Tuesday, May 24th. “It’s a great opportunity for interested applicants to walk in, complete the paperwork right there, be interviewed and speed up the hiring process,” says Charlie Gischlar, a spokesman for the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.

The hiring event will take place from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM on Tuesday.

Gischlar says MDOT SHA is looking for facilities maintenance technicians. “These are the people who go out and maintain the highways, remove litter, and overall start at the ground level and get out and maintain a safe and reliable highway system,” he says. Other tasks these facilities maintenance technicians  do include repairing roads, filling in potholes, maintaining vegetation and erecting signs.

He says those who are hired as  facilities maintenance technicians have many opportunities to advance within the SHA.  “A lot of people that are very successful at MDOT SHA start out at the ground floor level and then slowly move up through the ranks,” Gischlar says. “It  offers competitive salaries, lots of time off and that type of thing.”

Many employers have had difficulty finding applicants for their open positions. Gischlar says it hasn’t been that much of a problem at MDOT SHA. “The Maryland State Highway Administration, we have not really had that type of an issue, although we do see it across the whole region, the whole state,’ he says.

Gischlar also notes this hiring event is a first for MDOT SHA. “We’re hoping for a successful operation, and take these best practices to the other districts across the state from the mountains to the shore and everywhere else in between,” he says.

Those who come on Tuesday are asked to bring a photo identification.
