Update: Man Arrested In Valley Mall Shooting In Hagerstown

Update – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has identified the shooting suspect as Matthew Lookabaugh, 21, of Hagerstown.

He has been arrested and taken to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and is facing the following charges:

  • Attempted 1st Degree Murder
  • Attempted 2nd Degree Murder
  • 1st Degree Assault
  • 2nd Degree Assault
  • Reckless Endangerment
  • Several Related Gun Charges

Police say Lookabaugh and the victim got into a verbal altercation which escalated into the shooting in the Valley Mall parking lot.

Authorities have detained two individuals in connection with the shooting.

Hagerstown, Md. (KM) – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting Wednesday night at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown.

Sergeant Howard Ward with the Sheriff’s Office  says just before 6:30 PM, deputies responded to the Mall for reports of shots fired. “Upon arrival here at the Mall, we did locate a victim, a male victim, who was transported to Meritus Medical Center for further treatment,:” he says.

There’s no  word on that man’s condition.

Sergeant Ward says two individuals were detained. There’s no information  on whether they have been charged.

The shooting took place outside of Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Valley Mall. “At this time, we do believe there’s no further threat to the public,” says Sergeant Ward.

The Sheriff’s Office says it’s not known if the suspects and the victim knew each other.
