Suspect In Deadly Mass Shooting In Washington County Continues To Be Held Without Bond

Hagerstown, Md. (KM) – The West Virginia man charged in a deadly mass shooting in Maryland continues to be held without bond.

Joe Louis Esquivel, 23, was in Washington County District Court on Monday afternoon for a bond hearing. Esquivel is charged with three counts of 1st-degree murder and other offenses for a shooting at Columbia Machine in the Smithsburg area Thursday afternoon. . Three people were killed, and one was seriously injured.

Esquivel was apprehended following a shootout with State Police. A state trooper was injured in that incident, but has been treated and released.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says Esquivel was an employee at Columbia Machine, Inc. when the shootings occurred.
