Individual Taken Into Custody Following An Hours-Long Standoff

He was transported to Frederick Health Hospital for an evaluation.

Urbana, Md. (KM) – The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office says it  took a suspect into custody on Wednesday afternoon  following a seven-hour standoff.

At around 4:00 PM, deputies responded to the area of Holborn Place in Urbana to serve a court-ordered emergency evaluation,  along with a search and seizure warrant and an arrest warrant on an individual. But that person refused to come out, and comply with deputies. He began moving furniture in front of the exit doors and windows, and barricaded himself inside the home.

Mental health professionals, the Mobile Crisis Team and Sheriff’s  Office Crisis Negotiators responded and tired to persuade the man to come out, but he refused. The SWAT team entered the home, and found the man barricaded in a bedroom. He was taken into custody without incident.

The man was transported to Frederick Health Hospital for an evaluation, and then he will be taken to the Adult Detention Center for the outstanding warrant.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this operation by the Division of Fire and Rescue Services and the Mobile Crisis Unit.

Due to the sensitive nature of this case, the Sheriff’s Office says it will not release the identity of this person.
