Overnight Lane Closures To Begin Next Week On I-70 In The New Market Area

It’s part of a bridge deck replacement project.

New Market, Md (KM)  The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration says there will be some overnight lane closures on Interstate 70 in the New Market area next week.

Beginning on Tuesday, July 5th, crews will temporarily close the lanes to install a shield under the Route 75 bridge. The shield will collect debris from the removal of the old bridge deck, and the construction of a new bridge deck. Single lanes will be closed between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM for about a week.

The shield will lower the bridge from 17-feet to 14-feet, 6-inches . Vehicles exceeding that height will take the Route 75 exit to bypass the bridge and continue on to I-70. The shield will remain in place through the duration of the bridge deck project which is expected to be completed by late summer 2023. The cost  is $6.4-million. .

The contractor for the project, Greenbridge Construction of Westminster, will be using roadway sings, cones and barrels to alert motorists of any lane closures and height restrictions.
