The Sheriff’s Office says he had burglary tools in his possession.
Frederick, Md. (KM) – A male juvenile was arrested after trying to break into the Target store atĀ 5437 Urbana Pike early Tuesday morning. The youth is charged as a juvenileĀ with attempted burglary, fleeing and eluding, providing officers with a false name to avoid prosecution, failure to obey a lawful order and possession of burglary tools.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to the store at around 4:15 AM for a burglary in progress. Overnight employees say they heard someone trying to get into the store through a roof hatch.
When they arrived, deputies saw the youth running on the roof. They set up a perimeter around the store, and commanded the youth to come down. He climbed down and fled. Deputies followed him down to the MARC station parking lot, over the railroad tracks and into a field of tall grass and weeds. Authorities says the foot pursuit was called off because deputies didn’t have a visual on the suspect, and were unsure if he had a weapon.
The Maryland State Police helicopter detected a “hot spot” in the middle of the field, and were able to locate the youth. Deputies took him into custody without incident.
The Sheriff’s Office says the youth was not cooperative when arrested, and provided a false name to the deputies. He was charged and transported back to the Law Enforcement Center. Authorities say they found burglary tools on the roof of the Target store..
One deputy was injured during the foot chase, and he was transported to Frederick Health Hospital for an evaluation.
