Frederick, Md. (KM) – A Frederick man will be spending a lot of time in prison. In Circuit Court on Tuesday, Jesse Cook, 44, was sentenced to 25-yeras incarceration with all but 20-years suspended., He must also serve three-years of supervised probation when he gets out of prison.

“He was found guilty of 1st- and 2nd-degree assault by a Frederick County jury back in June of this year after a three-day trial,”: says State’s Attorney Charlie Smith . “This was a terrible case of domestic violence.”

The incident took place on June 16th, 2021, when Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a home in the  5300 block of Kingsbrook Drive for a domestic assault  in progress. The victim and her boyfriend go into  an argument over money.   She was attempting  to leave him and end their relationship. Smith says Cook strangled the victim to the point where she blacked out. “She thought she was going to die,” says Smith. “She was seeing black. She was passed out almost. She was able to regain consciousness, run out of her house, lock herself inside a car while he was  ripping parts of the car off in an effort to get to her. Fortunately, law enforcement arrived in time.”

Cook almost ripped off the car door and was pounding  on the windows when deputies arrived, the State’s Attorney’s Office says.

Smith says a stiff sentence like this should remind everyone that domestic violence will not be tolerated in Frederick County. “Oftentimes, we’ve seen over the years where this results in death,” he says. “Domestic violence is not acceptable and it’s  going to be prosecuted aggressively and you’re going to get a lengthy prison term.”

The State’s Attorney’s Office urges anyone who experiences domestic violence to contact local law enforcement, medical professionals and Heartly House in Frederick.

Gomez Gutierrez Sentence

In another case, a Frederick woman was sentenced on Tuesday to seven-years in prison for raping a teenage boy. Evelyn Gomez Gutierrez, 44, was convicted last month of 2nd-degree rape and two counts of 3rd-degree sex offense.

Charging documents from the Frederick Police say the youth had sex with Gomez Gutierrez between 2020 to 2021, and that included vaginal sex. The youth was told not to tell his mother as Gomez Gutierrez and the boy’s mother were good friends.

The teenager admitted the sexual relationship to his pediatrician during a physical exam. The doctor notified police.
