Frederick, Md. (NS) – Violence needs to end in Frederick County. That’s what Sheriff Chuck Jenkins will say at a rally in Baker Park on August 6.

“The message is we got to find a way to stop this unnecessary violence. I don’t care if you’re black, white, whatever ethnicity you are. We need to stop the violence,” said Jenkins.

He joined WFMD’s Morning News Express on Thursday and said more conversations need to be had about the reasons for acts of violence.

“Violence in this community is not near as bad as our surrounding jurisdictions, but all of it is really unnecessary,” Jenkins said.

He explained that the underlying social reasons for why we have violence need to be found, and then people need to figure out what can be done do to stop it.

Other speakers at the rally include motivational speaker Ray Leonard Jr and former professional basketball player Lamar Odom.
