Open House On Sugarloaf Treasured Landscape Management Plan To Be Held Thursday Evening

Residents can view maps & charts, and ask questions.

Frederick, Md. (KM) – Maps, charts and other materials about the proposed  Sugarloaf Treasured Landscape Management Plan will be on display Thursday night at Urbana High School. The Frederick County Division of Planning and Permitting will be holding an open house on the plan from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

“People are welcome to come and talk to us about the plan, ask us any questions that they may have,” says Planner Kim Brandt. “A lot of people have already contacted us via e-mail or phone, or they’ve come by at 30 North Market {Street}. But this is just another opportunity for people to engage with staff.”

Planner Tim Goodfellow says the text of the proposed overlay for the area will be on display. “I’ll have the print out in large poster form of the recommended or proposed overlay. But it will not include our discussion items from last week,” he told the Council on Monday. “No motions have been made. No votes have been taken. Those are just preliminary discussions.”

The proposed Sugarloaf Treasured Landscape Management Plan covers almost 20,000 acres of land between the Monocacy National Battlefield and the Montgomery County line. Interstate 270 is the dividing line between development east of the highway, and preservation on the west side.

The County Council has been holding workshops on the plan which have generated testimony from citizens both in support and in opposition.
