Frederick, Md. (KM) – A Frederick man charged with two counts of kidnapping children under 16 years of age will be standing trial. During a review hearing on Thursday in Circuit Court, Judge Julie Stevenson Solt ruled that Christopher Wade Shultz, 40, is competent to stand trial.
In April, he had been deemed incompetent, and was turned over to the custody of the Maryland Department of Health..
The State’s Attorney’s Office says Shultz will be transferred to the County Detention Center, and prosecutors will also request trial dates from the Assignment Office. .
Shultz was arrested in February for kidnapping two children from a home on Reichs Ford Road. He claimed the two kids were his. But the Sheriff’s Office, which responded to the incident, determined through conversations with the children’s father, the two kids and Shultz that the defendant was not the father of these two children.
In addition to the kidnapping offenses, Shultz is also charged with two counts of false imprisonment, and one count each of home invasion and 2nd-degree assault.
A status hearing on Shultz’s case is scheduled for August 24th.
