Youth Charged With Firearms Offenses In Frederick

Police say he fired a handgun into the air.

Frederick, Md (KM) Frederick Police have charged a 16-year-old boy with reckless endangerment and weapons offenses. The youth was arrested on Monday afternoon near Monocacy Middle School on Opossumtown Pike.

At around 4:26 PM,  officers were dispatched to the area of Thomas Johnson Drive and Christophers Crossing for a shooting with reports of one person injured. But when they arrived, authorities learned no one had been hit by gunfire.

They found the youth who attempted the flee, but was quickly detained. After speaking with witnesses, detectives say they determined the teenager fired the gun.

Police also located a handgun which the teenager had discarded; the weapon had been reported stolen.

Detectives say they believe an altercation occurred b between two groups of juveniles, and the suspect fired a handgun into the air.

The 16-year-old is charged with possession of a stolen firearm, reckless endangerment, illegally carrying, wearing and transporting a handgun and being a minor in possession of a regulated firearms.

The juvenile has been released to the custody of his parent. . A criminal summons has been issued for him to appear in court.
