20-Year-Old From Hancock Killed In Accident On Route 40

Witnesses say the vehicle was going at a high rate of speed just before the crash

Hagerstown, Md. (DG) – A 20-year-old from Hancock will killed in a single vehicle accident Monday night in Washington County.

Maryland State Police responded to Route 40 near Beaver Creek Road at around 8 PM for a single vehicle accident.

When police arrived, they found a Nissan Altima on its driver side in the creek with the two passengers out of the car.

The driver, Seth Bowman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both passengers, 18-year-old Hailey Blotner and 20-year-old Travis Dorsey were taken to Meritus Medical Center to be evaluated.

Witnesses told police the vehicle was traveling at high rate of speed as it passed them on eastbound Route 40. They said the driver lost control of the vehicle on the wet pavement, and went over the embankment into the wooded area and struck a tree before coming to rest in the creek.

The accident remains under investigation.
