The fund provides finances to support refugees in the area.
Frederick, Md. (BW)- The Refugee Support Fund was established by Covenant Capital in partnership with the Community Foundation of Frederick County.
Covenant Capital is local a wealth management firm. It provided the Community Foundation with an endowment and the ability to distribute that money in the form of grants and scholarships to appropriate candidates.
The goal of this fund is to support nonprofit organizations that provide financial resources and services to those forced to flee their country.
Betsy Day, the president and CEO of the Community Foundation said that this fund is important in supporting those seeking refuge from war and political unrest.
“We want to be effective and help all people in our community… many of these folks quickly become integral to our community… and we want them to assimilate,” Day said.
She added that many of these refugees find jobs in the area, go to school and even volunteer.
The Refugee Support Fund is now one of more than 770 component charitable funds that the Community Foundation oversees.
The Community Foundation has allocated more than $86 million since its founding in 1986.
