New Minor League Baseball Team In Frederick Needs A Name

There is a contest for fans to suggest a name.

Frederick, Md (KM) Baseball fans will have more of their favorite sport to enjoy in Frederick County this season. Attain Sports and Entertainment is launching a new Frederick minor league baseball team. It’s players will share Nymeo Field at Harry Grove StadiumsĀ  with the Keys during the spring and summer.

Attain Sports and Entertainment also owns the Frederick Keys.

Branden McGee, Director of Marketing for the Frederick Keys and the new minor league baseball team, says this new team is part of the Atlantic League which has been around for 25 seasons. “They’reĀ  not directly affiliated with any single major league team. However, they do have a partnership. Over 1,000 players from the League over the course of time have signed with major league teams and have played either with minor league teams and played either with their minor league teams at some aspect of their career,” he says.

The Frederick Keys are part of the MLB Draft League. The Keys were an affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles for many years.

McGee says there will be 88 baseball games played Nymeo Field. The new team will begin its season in late April,. and its first home game at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium will be on May 2nd. “The month of May, all of the homes games of the Atlantic team will be here. And then from June to September, we’ll have alternating. When the Keys are on the road, the Atlantic League team will play here, and vice versa,” he says.

With the expansion of minor league baseball in Frederick County, McGee says there is enough interest among fans in the region for two minor league baseball teams. “When the Frederick Keys were a Single A Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles,. we had 70 homes games,” he said. “We had one of the strongest markets in minor league baseball and had very strong fan base that came out for all of our promotions and all the games that we had when we were full season affiliated baseball.”

There is no name yet for this new Frederick minor league Team, but fans can submit their ideas for a name by going on line to frederickatlanticleague.com. The deadline is January 27th, 2023. A selection of the top names will be announced and fans will have an opportunity to vote on their favorite. “One lucky fan who submits the winning name, or the name we select, will receive two season tickets for the 2023 season, an official team jersey, and an opportunity to throw out the first pitch during that Frederick Atlantic League Baseball team season,” says McGee.
