Frederick, Md (KM) The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office assisted Animal Control officers who responded on Saturday to the 8300 block of Water Street Road in Walkersville to investigate reports of malnourished and possibly deceased dogs.
When they arrived, authorities located two pens with three Mastiff-type dogs in each one; one of the dogs was laying against a fence and was deceased. . Authorities say the live dogs were eating each other feces as they were so hungry. They conducted a further search of the property, and found two more dead dogs in trash bags outside and in front of the kennel. .
The five dogs found alive and three who are dead were removed from the property and taken to the Animal Control Center. One of the dogs found alive was taken to a local Emergency Animal Hospital for an examination as the canine could barely stand and walk. That dog was released on Sunday morning.
“The investigation into the welfare of the dogs is active and ongoing,”: says David Luckenbaugh, the Director of Animal Control, in a statement. “The five dogs currently at the Animal Control Center are doing well and receiving individualize care.”
