STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TO INSPECT DRAINAGE STRUCTURES ON US 15 IN FREDERICK COUNTY

Crews to check structures following last weekend’s tanker crash and explosion.

March 8, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will inspect the drainage structures in the center median of US 15 between Rosemont Avenue and 7th Street in Frederick County Thursday, March 9. The inspection will enable crews to determine the integrity of the structures and the extent of any possible repairs necessary following last weekend’s fatal tanker truck crash and explosion along northbound US 15.

Motorists can expect a single left-lane closure beginning 10 a.m. Thursday on southbound US 15 just past 7th Street. The inspection is expected to be complete by 2 p.m. The State Highway Administration will also close the right lane on northbound US 15 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., March 8-9, for crews to continue the cleanup associated with the tanker truck crash and explosion.

Crews will use cones, barrels and electronic signs to alert motorists about the lane closure and work zone. The State Highway Administration understands the single-lane closure will create delays and appreciates the public’s patience. Proper operation of highway drainage systems is an essential element in maintaining safe and reliable highway systems.

The State Highway Administration maintains safety in work zones for our crews as well as motorists. Drivers need to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
