Two Dead After Moped Crash In Washington County

The suspect awaits pending charges.

Hagerstown, Md. (KM)- Two people were killed in a vehicle collision involving a moped and a pickup truck  in Washington County Thursday evening.

Maryland State Police detained 43-year-old Joseph Donald Guessford III, of Hagerstown, and took him to the local Barrack for questioning.  He was released following consultation with the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Around 9:14 p.m. Thursday night, troopers  responded to westbound route 40 near McDade Road  for a collision between a moped and  Ford pickup truck.

Two victims, 20-year-old Dystanei Nikole Cain, and 18-year-old Evan Alexander Cain, both of Hagerstown, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Guessford had fled the scene, but was taken into custody by state troopers.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is investigating this accident.  Authorities say the findings will be submitted to the State’s Attorney’s Office which will decide on possible charges.
